When functioning properly, your body has a system in place for eliminating toxins and waste. However, recent shifts in the modern diet are placing an increasing amount of strain on many systems and hinder your body’s natural ability to cleanse itself.



The Purpose of Our Cleanse
Our food does not have the nutrients it once had. 
The goal of the 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse™ is to temporarily reduce your intake of food, giving your body the time it needs to expel stored toxins, effectively “resetting” your digestive system for optimal functionality. In the meantime, Young Living products, along with recommended food and drink, give you the essential nutrients you need while cleansing.

Although you will consume less food during the cleanse, it is important to continue providing the essential nutrients that your body needs to thrive. The 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse encourages the use of several supplement products to make your cleanse as effective as possible.

Are you ready?
  1. You need your drink option. Balance Complete is the recommended meal replacement drink for this cleanse. If you need a vegan option, go for the Slique Shake. If you are celiac, you may also want to use Slique as the barley grass in Balance Complete can pose risk for gluten contamination for those who have the highest levels of sensitivity. This is going to be the bulk of your nutrition for these five days, keeping you satisfied and giving you needed enzymes.
  2. You need your Ningxia. At least 6 oz. per person per day. I don’t know about you, but I’m all over a cleanse that “makes” me drink that much Ningxia. Twist my arm. Easy to absorb vitamins and key antioxidants that gently flush your system while repairing and restoring.
  3. You need your detoxifying supplement and elimination promoter. Digest & Cleansewas originally formulated to be the companion for your Balance Complete here in the cleansing process. It has been out of stock for some time so we have some replacement options if you’re not one of the lucky ones with a stashed bottle of these babies in your cabinet.
    • Option 1: DiGize Oil - Add 5+ drops to a capsule and take in place of the Digest & Cleanse in the instructions with each drink. You can add a carrier oil if this unsettles your stomach but most don’t find that they need it. If you don’t have capsules, rub a few drops into the lining of your cheeks instead.
    • Option 2: Detoxzyme - Take 2 capsules in place of the Digest & Cleanse in the instructions with each drink. This enzyme will help to break down and remove unwanted things in your body. 
    • Option 3: Do both! Especially if you need extra help with bowel movements.
  4. You need your Cleanse Instructions. This will outline what you need to do each day, when, and what snacks and other food and drinks should be consumed. Please read thoroughly!

This week you are consuming things that are entirely digestible. This may be a routine thing for you, but for most of us this will be rare “spa” time for our digestive system and all of our organs. Impaired digestion is somewhere at the root of most health complications. The Balance Complete product you will be making shakes with on your cleanse contains digestive enzymes that will assist in efficient breakdown of the nutrition in the drink for utilization in your cells. By starving Candida, consuming enzymes, and removing toxins that stress your nervous system, you will be creating ideal circumstances for healing, cell regeneration, proper elimination, and rest.
When we open up our cleansing pathways: the colon, the kidneys, the lungs, and the skin (sweating), we enable the body to release unwanted chemicals that interrupt our hormonal balance, we provide a safe environment for weight loss by letting the body know it can release the toxins it has intentionally stored in fat for our protection, and we give our nervous system a chance to relax so that our body can HEAL.
To those who are concerned with losing pounds: I personally look at “weight loss” from the perspective of creating a healthy body, heart, and spirit. It makes a significant difference to be motivated through a desire for health rather than insecurity or frustration with where you are.

I encourage those tackling any kind of specific health issue to take time right now to be grateful for your body’s intelligence in protecting you from toxins. Give thanks for practical ways to address the signals of distress you have picked up on! And purposefully leave every complaint or hopeless thought about your physique and health behind this week. In doing this, you will be mentally and emotionally setting yourself up for success. Gratitude changes your physical chemistry!

How is it going? 
 
It is possible that today the excitement and adventure of cleansing have...well, faded a little. You might be thinking one morning without your coffee was enough; that if your body is so smart it should’ve taken care of everything yesterday; or that with the mood you’re in it would actually be more selfless to make an “exception” so you’ll be more functional for your family.

If any of this pops in your head today: this is your liver speaking to you. You are detoxifying from the organ of frustration and moodiness. The organ that gets congested and overloaded with hormones it cannot flush quickly enough. Let it speak. But I want to share a little tip for getting the most from this cleansing process. Taken from Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils, I encourage anyone who is experiencing frustration today to grab some lemon oil, to sniff it, and focus on the word… Accomplishment.

Consider some of the limitations you may feel because of your health (including emotional health!) and speak truth over yourself. Then just think about what you are accomplishing this week! Know as I mentioned yesterday that there is hope, and that you can move beyond that limitation. While this may not imply perfect health tomorrow morning, it will cause your perspective to change. You will see things in a new way, and before you know it, your opportunities will be boundless.
Here are some truths I personally like to train my mind and heart to know. These are obviously based on my beliefs and yours will reflect yours, but I wanted you to have some examples!

  • I trust in the Lord with all my heart, and do not depend on my own understanding
  • I seek Him in all that I do & He shows me what path to take!
  • I forgive all who frustrate or wrong me and let God fill me with love for them.
  • The Lord delights in me, and I choose to forgive myself as He has forgiven me, to acknowledge the mercy poured over my life.
  • May the Lord fill me completely with joy & peace because I trust in Him. Then I will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.
If you would like to work on clearing anger specifically, try inhaling Purification and learning these truths in place of the old feelings. Open yourself to feeling joy and laughter! Laughter is the opposite of anger, making it a perfect release for troublesome feelings of that kind.

And, oh by the way -- the "exceptions" aren't worth it. They'll only make you feel crummy now that your body is actually in the midst of cleansing.

Something that deserves attention at this point of the cleanse is your colon activity. If the Digest & Cleanse, DiGize or Detoxzyme has not stimulated bowel movements to this point, I would highly recommend adding some Peppermint Oil or DiGize Oil topically over your intestinal area for a colon massage. 1. Lie down on a flat surface, preferably on a bed or the floor. 2. Bend your knees. 3.  Apply a few drops of Peppermint or DiGize to your abdomen. (If the oils are too strong for you, dilute with a fatty carrier oil like Young Living’s V6 or coconut oil.) 4. With a closed fist or the tips of your fingers, begin massaging on the right side of the abdomen and work in a clockwise direction up, across and down the left side in small circles. Follow the path of the large intestine. Take your time. There is no reason to rush through the massage. 5. Massage at least 1-2 minutes before moving to the next area. Pressure can be applied during the massage. How much pressure depends on the tolerance level of each individual. Usually you will find an area that is exceptionally tender downright painful. This is the area where you want to concentrate your massage. And it really is not the time to be a namby-pamby. Get in there and massage with conviction, because more than likely, your headache or discomfort is originating from that very spot.

Sometimes if our colon is really log-jammed, our body will not be able to eliminate the toxins we're shedding the way it should and we will have uncomfortable symptoms as our body has to compromise to find a way to get them out!

Another thought based on some feedback I've been hearing about that is that it's best not to rapidly drink your Balance Complete, or "chug" it so to speak. I understand that can seem easier, but drinking it at a normal pace that lets your body process could help some of you if you have had discomfort, especially with your stomach/nausea etc.

Drink, drink, drink water! This is how we flush things out and you will cause yourself much digestive and detox distress without it!

Day 3: What to expect today
The brochure for the cleanse states on day 3, "Toxic symptoms subside. You begin to feel more energetic, and your body is adjusting to the extra fiber and water. You may still have food cravings, but they are much milder."

I'm hoping that this is true for all of you today! It seems like as our energy gets a boost and we're excited about the changes taking place that it would be a good time to look at some new habits we can begin forming during this cleanse that will support our body's cleansing processes throughout the year.

  • Gentle stretching, walking, and other lymphatic stimulating movement
  • Dry skin brushing for lymphatic drainage
  • Real salts (Himalayan or Real salt) on foods, and a pinch in drinking water to add minerals. It only takes a little, and this helps balance electrolytes as well as provide trace minerals for your body. Many people don't realize that their body is desperate for wholesome sodium.
  • Regular consumption of NingXia Red. I will be giving you lots of good reasons to keep up the red stuff in tomorrow's email!
  • Detox baths with Epsom Salts. There are variations of this bath with ginger to promote sweating, with bentonite clay, and with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda. I will say that I do not encourage using baking soda unless it is specifically aluminum free. Many people wait until they are ill or have a reaction to take a detox bath, but it is a great habit to take them weekly!
  • Emotional Clearing. I suggest the books Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils, The Healing Code, Aroma Freedom Technique, and also Emotional Freedom Technique
  • Journaling. There are a lot of reasons to journal for personal growth. This could be prayer journaling, writing about your goals and the growth and failures you experience along the way, writing down the profound and humorous things your children say, or just putting your thoughts to paper so that you can sort through your own thought processes efficiently. Over time this greatly helps in identifying our mindsets, whether they are beneficial or need to change in some way. Consider journaling some of what you've experienced on the cleanse as a starting place.
  • Oil pulling! This is hugely beneficial for your oral health, but incredibly it will actually promote cleansing throughout your entire system. This makes a wonderful daily habit for everything from detoxing heavy metals to remineralizing your teeth.
I encourage you to choose a couple of these things to implement in your regular routine. Make a habit of caring for your body.


Day 4: You're on the home stretch


I hope everyone is going strong today! One thing I have noticed personally is that I feel very motivated to eat whole foods next week! I’m refreshed and ready to chop up a bunch of veggies and dive into some new eating habits!

Day 5: It's The Last day



LAST DAY!So I heard from the masses -- and not everyone is looking forward to "eating whole foods" next week. 😉 Which isn't surprising. If we are being honest, I've done many cleanses where all I could think about was when I could have something fried, greasy, and unhealthy. After the first long whole foods cleanse I did, I swore off of studying nutrition and decided I wanted to learn something completely different at college. It was terrible! Now it feels like a privilege to reset my system and to gain some perspective. Here's something reasonable I want to challenge everyone to. This is something I was REALLY bad at for a long time. Baby. Steps. 
  1. Do not commit to eating nothing but raw eggplant next week, but also…
  2. Do not crash into eating only processed foods after this!
Why throw away hard work? Devouring bad food because you deserve it after the cleanse, or because your body is clean enough that it'll be okay, is bad logic. Good logic is to maximize on what you have already done.
Consider eliminating one food for the remainder of the month while you already have this head start, such as gluten, sugar, processed dairy products, soft drinks, etc.
Perhaps introduce organic/free range homemade chicken stock to your diet for a month! Or buy a bottle of digestive enzymes to try them out. Whatever you pick, I challenge everyone to select something to change (for the better) about their diet for the rest of this month and then add another next month.
Chin up, last day & your hard work is paying off! We are so proud of you and all you did for your body this week! Way to go!!!

Congratulations on Completing Your Cleanse! Now What?
Now that you’re entering back into normal life, remember that while supplements and food are incredibly important pieces to cleansing, they are just that…pieces. Make sure that you don't get tunnel focused on any one part of your health and ignore the others! Make clean living a lifestyle, not just five days out of your year!
Pure Water
  • Research filters, the condition of your water, etc. Pure water is a life source. You simply cannot be well or clean without it. If you want pipes to be clean, pour good water through them! Dehydration causes a myriad of easily fixable issues in the body. INVEST in clean water for your family!!! Avoid storing it in plastic bottles which can leach even more yuck into what you are drinking. (AquaOx, Pelican, and Berkey are three highly respected filtration brands.)
Proper Elimination
  • Not once a week, not once a day, not difficult, not uncomfortable. All of the things we’ve learned to expect as normal are not. 2-3 times a day, well-formed, easy to pass, and showing the shape of the colon. My kids know that if they say they feel poorly, my next question will be about what's been going on in the bathroom. They usually go into, "I have a headache…and I went to the bathroom at this time and it looked like this. I also had a full glass of water." These NEED to be our questions and answers!!!! Waste system functioning, check.
Rest
  • Contrary to our beliefs, we still require it. Rest is as much a state of being as it is the hours that we close our eyes. We must learn to let go. To have days we devote to spiritual and mental recuperation. The best decision we made a few years ago was to truly honor a day of rest in our week. This has trickled into our entire mindset about life. Your adrenals will thank you forever if you will honor your need for sleep and for release of what you cannot control.
Food
  • You cannot pour in waste and expect to somehow miraculously turn that into energy and nourishment. It's like pouring tar into your gas tank and being surprised when it doesn't run. Vibrant, whole, nutrient-dense foods are required for the body to run well.
Essential Oils
  • Working on a minute level, they drive in goodness to every point and system. Able to address emotions we may not even be aware of yet, the body is supported in its own God-given functions by God-made plants. We were made to run beautifully and oils give us little cheerleaders saying, "Go, body, go!!! Do your awesome thing!"
Supplements
  • Poor quality supplements are worse than useless. Difficult to assimilate, they overwhelm the body. High quality, whole-food supplements are key in a world where it's getting tougher to source what we need from foods. What are your favorite habits and tips in these areas? Clean Products
  • Everything that you put on or into your body matters from soaps and detergents to makeups and perfumes. Make sure that you are giving yourself only the best so that you don’t continue to clog and weigh down that beautiful body working so hard for you!
